Vegan Steak Recipes - Part 2

South Indian Style Vegan Chickpea-Tempeh Steak


  • 1 cup chickpeas, cooked and mashed
  • 1 cup tempeh, grated
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • A few curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup rice flour


  1. In a large bowl, combine mashed chickpeas, grated tempeh, onion, garlic, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt, and green chilies. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add rice flour to the mixture, stirring until the mixture is firm enough to form into steaks.
  3. Shape the mixture into steak-sized patties.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  5. Garnish with curry leaves and serve hot with a side of rice.
